If you've ever heard the story of Cinderella, you know it speaks of a girl who sacrificed herself for others. Of course in the storybook version, the girl didn't have a choice, but in this horse's story, she did. Cinderella sacrificed herself to keep her babies alive and well as they fought for survival amonst the wild horses of the Arizona desert. It was a rescue that brought that horse to the happy ending of the Cinderella story, and that's where her name came from.
Cinderella came to the Farm with ribs jutting out and hips that looked like "daggers scabbed over from the
areas that scraped the ground every
time she got up and down". Her rear suspensory ligaments were pulled to the point that we weren't sure she'd be able to walk much longer. Because of that, there will never be more than the weight of a blanket put on her, and it has paid off. Her ligaments, while still stretched, are holding up just fine, and it's amazing to see her gallop across the fields without pain or fear.
Today Cinderella is one well-fed and happy horse with a gentleness that can calm the anxiety out of anyone who comes near to her. She loves to be touched, held, painted on, anything. If you want to see what horse rescuing is all about, come visit Cinderella!
Cinderella and Chip, who hit it off from the day they first saw each other, hang out in one of the fields at the Farm. Most of the time you'll find these two together somewhere on the 5 acres they call home.
Kids in need, together with horses in need. Sometimes you just can't tell who is rescuing who, and honestly it doesn't really matter!
Cinderella seems quite content with her fairy tale life now. From staying warm in the blanket to laying out in the sun for entire mornings, this girl isn't shy when it comes to taking care of herself.
