Grace Falls Farm welcomes the newest member of the sanctuary. Meet Domino, and we need your help with him!

Domino came to the Farm on September 17th, 2024 and has been settling in with the rest of the herd. He is well kept, well fed, and has a sweet, gentle disposition that makes him an immediate favorite. So why did he need to come here?

Every horse has their own unique story that brings them to the Farm, and Domino is no exception. Domino comes from a program that provides equine-assisted activities and therapies to individuals with special needs. He hadn’t been there very long when he started showing signs of distress while under saddle. Known for taking the best care of their horses, the program engaged the same amazing veterinary services that Grace Falls Farm utilizes.

After several months of x-rays and exams, it was determined dear Domino had a condition known as “Kissing Spine”, where the bony projections on the vertebra can touch or “kiss” each other. While this can be a manageable condition, it meant Domino should no longer be used in ways that would cause him any discomfort.

The veterinarian discussed the outlook for Domino, and the program put Domino’s interests at the forefront to find him a place where he could live his best life. Knowing of Grace Falls Farm and our Equine Sanctuary, the veterinarian brought the two programs together for the good of one amazing horse.

A trial period ensued to ensure Domino was comfortable in his new surroundings. The wide-open hilly terrain at GFF is great for most horses’ muscles, hooves, and mental well-being, but it might not have been ok for Domino’s condition. Fortunately, two months later, Domino is happily trotting around the paddock and interacting with the rest of the horses. Domino now calls this sanctuary home.

Where do you come in? First, pray for our new boy! Domino’s health requirements will be more than most, with the need for more expensive trimming and veterinary requirements. Domino also loves to eat, just like everyone else here, and our hay funds are tight. Find your friends that love horses and share with them that there’s another horse on the block that needs a sponsor. Make a one-time donation. Become a sponsor yourself!
